The South is filled with ghost stories, but so
far as is known, only the Face in the Window
in Carrollton, Alabama, can be seen any time
day or night.
One of the state’s most bizarre stories of the
supernatural, the tale of the face in a window
of the old Pickens County Courthouse was
immortalized by writer Kathryn Tucker
Windham in her popular book, 13 Alabama
Ghosts and Jeffrey. The window itself is one
of the most mysterious and treasured
historic sites in Alabama.
The story revolves around Henry Wells, a
former slave freed at the end of the Civil War.
Legend holds that he was accused of
burning the Pickens County Courthouse to
the ground.
The county’s original courthouse had been
burned by during Wilson’s Raid through
Alabama and Georgia in 1865. It was
replaced after the war, but on November 16,
1876, the new courthouse burned to the
ground under suspicious circumstances.
It was not long, the tale continues, before the
blame was focused on Henry Wells. Arrested
but pursued by a lynch mob, Wells is said to
have fled into the attic or garret of the third
courthouse, which was by then being
completed. As the mob searched for him
below, Wells peered out a window to watch.
To his shock, however, lightning suddenly
struck the window and forever etched his
image into its glass. It is widely believed to
this day that the ghostly face of Henry Wells
continues to peer down from the courthouse
window.
Like most ghost stories, the legend of the
Face in the Window has its skeptics. The
basics of the story, however, do have a
foundation in truth. The courthouse did burn
exactly as the story relates and the Daily
Inquirer, a Georgia newspaper, reported on
February 6, 1878 that, “Henry Wells, a
notorious colored outlaw, has been captured
and confesses to burning the Court House at
Carrollton.”
Skeptics note that the windows of the
courthouse were not installed until February
of 1878 and that Wells was shot at the time
of his capture in January of that year and died
a few days later. The county court records for
Pickens County, however, indicate that Wells
actually died in February, the same month
that the windows were being installed.
The timing is close. Close enough that the
legend could very well be true. The other
question, however, is whether lightning could
really etch a photograph of a living person on
a glass window.
Scientists say it appears to be impossible,
but who can really judge the true power of
such massive bursts of electricity? In fact,
there was another case of a photograph
being caused by lightning from the same
decade.
In around 1873, Mrs. Norborne B. Powell was
standing at the window of a home at
Chennuggee Ridge, Alabama, when the
glass was struck by a bold of lightning. Her
image appeared on the glass, right down to
a hat and cameo pin she was wearing.
The Chennuggee Ridge photograph wound
up in the hands of Mrs. Powell’s grandson,
Dr. Edward H. Cary who at one time served
as president of the American Medical
Association. Believing it to be a priceless
artifact of Alabama history, he sent it to the
Department of Archives in Montgomery in
1920. Someone there, however, dropped the
photograph and it was shattered.
The Pickens County Courthouse is located in
Carrollton, Alabama, which is 35 miles west
of Tuscaloosa. The historic building is being
restored and a large arrow points to the
window and the mysterious lightning portrait.

Did you recently move into a new home? Are you being disturbed by strange or unusual occurrences. If you believe you have a haunting or need help with ghosts you may want to cleanse your home of the unwanted spirits.
Cleansing your home is not a difficult process. First you should anoint the home. Christians regularly use blessed oil,like olive oil and water, to anoint objects. During the anointing your home, pay extra attention to entrance and exit areas. Also be sure to anoint the places around your home that you feel exude the energy of the spirits the most. If you don’t want to use oil then you may use the smoke of either incense or candles.
Next you should pray over heavily infected areas. Prayer can be conducted through meditation, well-wishing and conventional spoken prayer. Take a moment at each of these locations after anointing the entire house, and say a prayer that the spirits exit.
Bannish evil spirits. Some spirits will be more reluctant to leave than others. If this is the case, you must identify the nature of the spirit. You should call the spirit out so that it knows you are talking to it. After this, you must bind the spirit through rebuking it. You should say out loud things such as “spirits of violence leave this home now” or any similar phrases . Telling them by whose authority you rebuke them, such as “in the name of Christ and the Holy Spirit” or similar phrases, will also aid in ousting the spirit while at the same time, letting it know it is unwelcome.
Unwanted spirits will struggle,in most cases, after they are bound. They become very mischievous at this point just before leaving an abode. It becomes your duty to refuse the spirits influence over you. Making yourself strong of will and resolve at this point becomes very important to your success. This will also help to avoid any type of spiritual warfare which have been known to have some physical implications at times.
Be sure to open all windows and doors in the home, this will allow the spirit to easily exit out of your home. Provide for them a path that allows little resistance.

Some religions based on Christianity, such as Catholicism, believe that these cleansing rituals should only be conducted by priests and evangelists. If you suspect that you may be Living With Ghost you can use a Ouija or Spirit Board to establish contact with the spirit.
To use a Ouija board you should place the board upon the knees of two people, preferably a male and female. Put heart shaped table aka (the planchette) in the middle of the ouija, with fingers resting lightly upon the table allowing it to move freely. Once you are ready a question may be asked, and within a few minutes the table will begin to move, slowly at first and then more rapidly. As the table hovers across the board, a transparent window or pointer located at the top of the table indicates each letter of a message as it is received.

Be careful that only one person asks questions at a time. This will help to avoid confusion.
For the best results it is important that all who are present should concentrate upon the matter in question and avoid distractions. Everyone who sits a the table should take the affair serious and be respectful of the matter. If you use it in a frivolous manner, asking silly questions, or make it a joke, you will most likely get less than favorable results.
The Ouija Board is a great mystery to all, and none claim to have precise instructions for the management and use of the board, and it will not work work equally well in all instances. If you exercise patience and judgment you will achieve favorable results.
Before using a Ouija Board it should be cleaned with a soft dry cloth.This will insure that the feet of the table can move around the Ouija with ease.
For a more stable connection with the spirit world two or more people should place their hands on the planchette. Our skepticism is somewhat reduced to believe in the movement of the planchette during multiple participant sessions. Our skeptical minds have a tendency to lead us to believe that it is someone else in the session moving the planchette. This skepticism enables supernatural forces to use that belief system, and therefore make it even easier to guide the planchette themselves.

Burning Lavender (incense or herb) tends to welcome benevolent spirits from the other side. Whereas frankincense tends to protect the session from the not so benevolent ones.
Also the burning of white candles during a Ouija session allows white light to guard over the participants.
Dim light in the room creates a better atmosphere for contacting a spirit with the Ouija Board.
Also midnight seems to be the ideal time to create a stronger connection to the spirit world.
The Spirit Board can be placed on a table, or you can place it on your knees. A table maybe more suitable because some sessions may be very long, and you may tempt you to shift your weight or hands often.
Someone should have the task of writing down questions and responses. Often spirits speak in an abbreviated code of first letters of words (instead of whole words) and also they may spell things out phonetically. It becomes clearer or more understandable to us when we see it written out.
A few words of caution to abide by when you are Living With Ghost:
Never use the Spirit Board in graveyards or sights of tragic death. Spirits bound to these places can be very confused and often very angry. Use of the Ouija Board in these places can open a connection between those spirits to yourself, allowing them to bind to you and/or the board.
Never take the Ouija Board lightly; mocking the message or the deliverer can cause unpleasant consequences. Spirits may not like to be mocked or made fun of.
Never believe everything that comes thru on a Spirit Board. When we journey to the other side, we still retain our personalities. We can joke, tease, and lie even in spirit form. They are still human so to speak. An angry human will probably not mellow in death.
Evaluate your session notes carefully. If the information you get from beyond does not sound right, or feel comfortable, you may want to entertain banishing the spirit from further communication. You may also want to do a basic cleansing of your Ouija Board after each session, and by all means examine carefully the information you receive and don’t stop asking questions until you are satisfied that the quality of the information you are receiving is consistent.
When you are Living With Ghost a Ouija Board may be a viable solution for opening a line of communication with a spirit so as you can help it move on.
Hauntings are rare occurrences, and sometimes it is hard to determine whether or not any strange phenomena you are witnessing in your home is truly due to a haunting. Most hauntings are found to be, after thorough investigation, either a mis-perception, hallucination or simply the power of suggestion.The cases that remain are still a mystery though, and in some cases, this maybe contibuted to the fact that we just don’t have enough information.
There are alot places that are alleged to be haunted, but in many cases their reputation comes to rely on slim evidence at best.
A haunting is one of the most noisy and destructive forms of paranormal activity. They are the true noise makers and can really cause major havoc.Hauntings are usually tied to a site, a room or even a piece of furniture.
A residual haunting occurs when trapped energy is anchored to a location. This can include the recording of moments of intense emotions, such as battles like the one in Gettysburg. It could hold onto the energy of a murder or other violent or traumatic event. It could even be the embodiment of pleasurable emotional energy, such a big fun filled party or even extreme sexual energy. Imprints can also be recorded when the same activity is consistently repeated such as sitting in a specific “favorite” chair, walking up a flight of stairs or cooking in a kitchen.
Active hauntings, on the other hand,are in a minority and make up less than 20 percent of all reported ghostly encounters. Unlike a residual haunting where what is being seen, felt or even heard is a recording or imprint of energy on an item or the environment. An active haunting involves real spirits or entities. During a residual haunting, any ghost that may be detected is always unaware of any human presence. This is not the case during an active haunting. During an active haunting the entity is very much aware of your presence and more likely than not interact with you in some way.

So how can you determine if a place is truly haunted? Ideally, you need multiple, independent witnesses reporting the same, or very similar, haunting-type phenomena at the same location.These witnesses must not be aware beforehand that a location is allegedly haunted. They must also not have been deliberately seeking ghosts. People who are desperate to see something paranormal sometimes do by the power of suggestion alone.

Living With Ghost From The Past… Jack The Ripper was one of the worlds most infamous serial killers to date. The number of victims we lay blame on Jack the ripper is believed to be between four and nine women if the night or prostitutes. Even though the exact number of victims is debateable there is one more or less famous victim. Her name is Mary Ann Nichols. It is believed that she died such an agonizing not to mention horrifying death that her spirit can still be seen haunting the very alley in which she was killed. In the early morning hours of August 31, 1888 the dead body of Mary Ann Nichols was found in entrance of a stable on Buck’s Row which is now Durward Street. Mary was the first known Whitechapel victim of the infamous Jack the Ripper. On the morning that she was murdered she had come back to the lodgings from a local Thawl Street pub that went by the name “The Frying Pan” a little after 12.30am. However she did not have the four pence of money to pay for a overnight stay. Soon after Mary Nichols went out on the street to go earn enough money for the night’s bed. She intended to prostitute herself and believed that her new bonnet would help attract a customer. Charles Cross, a carter discovered Marys’ corpse at around 3.40am lying in Bucks Row on her back, legs straight out and her skirts raised to her waist. Robert Pal another carter arrived shortly and undecided as to whether she was dead or not they elected to go back to work and inform a Policeman when they saw one. The carters did not actually alarm anyone to the victim that they had discovered, this task was left to Constable John Neil who found Mary and her horrible wounds. Her throat had been cut from ear to ear and severed back to her vertebrae. Her wind pipe and gullet had been savagely cut and there had also been extensive slashing and ripping of her abdomen. Buck’s Row is all but gone today,but on dark nights, through out the past 100 years there have been countless sightings of a huddled figure lying on the ground illuminated by a ghostly green light. The apparition appears to be at the same spot that Mary Ann Nichols corpse was discovered.
